Will Speed Racer Beat The Odds?
Directed by The Wachowski Brothers it was shot between early June and late August 2007 in Potsdam and Berlin, Germany with an estimated budget of $120,000,000. The film had been in development since 1992, with several changes in writers and directors and is a live action adaptation of the 1960's Japanese anime series of the same name. The main character, Speed Racer is an 18-year-old who loves racing and cars. His parents, Pops and Mom are also heavily involved in the racing industry with their own independent business building race cars. Speed Racer's older brother is also a well known and popular racer known as Rex Racer but he was killed during Speed's childhood in the Casa Cristo race. The Casa Cristo is an incredibly intense cross-country racing rally which is famous for its notoriously rough and foul play. Before he died Rex had been rejected by his father for racing in the Casa Cristo but not only that, later he was publicly disgraced for cheating in a race. With his artistic skills and one of his fathers designed cars Speed Racer is quickly sweeping the racing world with his skill but he remains only interested in the art of the race and the well-being of his family. Soon he begins to attract the attention of Mr. Royalton the owner of conglomerate Royalton Industries who wants Speed to race for him but Speed declines his offer of a luxurious lifestyle because he knows that it would upset and disappoint his father. Not used to being turned down and with Speed's refusal putting in jeopardy his and other top corporate interests at risk he threatens Speed's career success and very life. The film centers around Royalton's attempts to stop Speed and sabotage his families business. A mystery Racer X is also introduced in the film and Speed comes to suspect that Racer X is actually his brother Rex in disguise Despite seemingly insurmountable odds Speed...
