HELPING YOU TAKE CARE OF YOUR FIGURE(S)!![]() "McFarlanes NFL Event Exclusive Jim Brown Action Figure"
McFarlanes Jim Brown Rookie special exclusive figure to be released. This figure will only be available from the McFarlane's booth at this years Pro Football Hall of Fame induction weekend in Canton. This exclusive figure will be a repaint of his NFL Legends 2 figure featuring Brown's white uniform from his 1957 Rookie season. Jim Brown has not only made his mark as a football player but also as a social activist and an actor.
Born on February 17 1936 in St Simons, Georgia he played for the Cleveland Bears throughout his nine year career in the NFL and is recognized as one of the best running backs of all time. His parents divorced while he was young and he moved to Long Island to live with his mother who worked as a housekeeper for wealthy homeowners. Whilst attending Manhasset High School he earned several letters playing football, basketball, lacrosse and running track. Despite his many talents though he was unable to secure an athletic scholarship until a local benefactor paid for his first year at Syracuse University. By the time he finished in 1957 he had not only earned a scholarship but also All-American recognition in both football and lacrosse. He was drafted by the Cleveland Bears in the first round of the NFL Drafts as 6 overall pick in 1957, and he stayed with them throughout his nine year career in the NFL..
When he retired from the NFL in 1966 he was the record holder for both single season (1863 yards) and career rushing (12,312yards) and all time leader of rushing touchdowns (106), total touchdowns (126) and all-purpose yards (15,549). Jim Brown was also the first player to break the 100 rushing touchdowns milestone which has only been accomplished by a hand full of other players despite the extended season of 16 games against the 12 game season when he broke the record. He was also voted into the Pro-Bowl every season he played in the league and scored three touchdowns in his final Pro-Bowl game before leaving the league. Probably the most amazing accomplishment of all these achievements is the fact that they were all achieved during his short career and before he reached the age of 29. He retired on July 14, 1966 after the Cleveland Bears owner refused him permission to finish his work on the movie "The Dirty Dozen". Seventeen years later he considered returning when it looked like Franco Harris, whom he disliked, would break his all time rushing record but eventually Walter Payton broke the record in 1984.
In 1975, much to the pleasure of his female fans, he was the September Playgirl centerfold. Then in 1993 he was hired as the color-commentator for the first six pay-per-view Ultimate Fighting Championship events and currently works with kids caught up in the Los Angeles gang scene through the Amer-I-Can program which he founded in 1988. In 2002 Spike Lee released a retrospective film on Jim Brown's career and personal life. Measuring approx 6 1/4" to the tip of his helmet this special Jim Brown figure pays honor to this outstanding athlete. The figure has articulation at the neck and both biceps on he stands on a custom 5 1/2" x 3" base retailing for approx $15 at the show. But with an early sellout expected this figure is likely to turn up on the secondary markets were he's likely to sell for good money.
