Gears of War: Dom Santiago Statue
Dominic "Dom" Santiago is a seasoned Coalition of Ordered Governments (C.O.G.) soldier/fighter who is one of the main fictional characters in the hit video game Gears of War created by video game developer Enigma for Microsoft’s X-Box 360™.
There is little to be said about Dom Santiago’s part in the game’s storyline since he is not actually the central character in the game but is cast as the loyal friend and trustworthy sidekick to Marcus Fenix whom he fights alongside with throughout the game.
The game portrays Santiago’s character as a vocal, colorful, yet practical soldier. He is seen as the optimist in times of dread and darkness. Coupled with his witty, friendly and outgoing personality, Dom has no troubles in forming relationships with other factions who are also in the thick of the fight against the alien Locusts.
Santiago’s deep loyalty especially with his friends is one admirable trait in his personality. He has neither patience nor tolerance for people who have a “me-first” attitude. Dom was an instrumental witness who saved his friend from the death penalty when Marcus was arrested and tried in military court for dereliction of duty when the war hero abandoned his post trying to save his father’s life. Although Santiago’s reputation was tainted for his testimonials on the witness stand, he wouldn’t do anything less in order to save his friend’s life.
Santiago’s intensity in the battlefield is unmatched and only his loyalty to Marcus Fenix can top that trait. Together with Lt. Minh Young Kim, the commanding officer of the Delta Squad, they rescued Marcus Fenix from the ruins of the Jacinto Maximum Security Prison when it was attacked by the Locusts just four years after Marcus was incarcerated. Dom was also instrumental in recruiting Fenix to join the Delta Squad upon the latter’s reinstatement to active duty.
Dom’s battle for survival is actually an on-going quest to find his wife, Maria, after she went missing on “Emergence Day”- the fateful day when the Locust Horde started their attack on the human race. Finding his wife motivates him to establish connections with several local Stranded in Empyra in order to find information regarding Maria’s whereabouts. The ongoing war with the Locust Horde has eventually become a very personal one for him.
In the second installment of Gears of War, Dominic Santiago will see more action as he continues his ulterior quest in locating and reuniting with his wife Maria while at the same time trying to stay alive in fighting the Locusts.
