Upper Deck's NFL All-Star Vinyl Football Figures With a Vinyl Attitude
Upper Deck's NFL All-Star Vintyl football figures bring a whole new attitude to the hobbly of collecting NFL Football figures. These 11-ich figures are styled similar to the underground urban vinyl figures that have become very popular with collectors in recent years.
These unique 11-inch figures combine realism and art to produce original and innovative NFL football figures. The way that the figures highlight each athletes distinctive features and playing styles, such as the cleft in Brady's chin and Brady's eye black and boyish cowlick; Rothlisberger's backward baseball cap and hockey-style playoff beard; Favre's steely blue gaze and ever-present hand warmer and towel, are what make these figures so different to the more traditional figures available. These figures are featured in both their team's home and away jerseys, complete with Reebok logo on sleeve, NFL logo on chest.
Upper Deck MVP Vinyls MVPs, which stands for miniature vinyl platform, were planned to be collectibles based on the popular urban vinyl hobby such as Kid Robot's Dunny, Toy2R's Qee, Medicom's Bearbrick and Kubrick, etc.. The concept was that the product would start with a single platform, in this case a generic 8" football figure. Designers would then create a variety of different original artwork designs to go on the platform. The MVPs would be created to represent the 32 different NFL team mascots. Upper Deck chose eight well-known vinyl designers, including Jesse Hernandez, MAD, Niark1, Rebel Wookiee, Sket One, Spanky, TWEEQiM and UNKLBrand, to craft the artwork for the series The figures were to be 8-inches tall with articulation at the waist, head, and arms and were about as wide as they were tall giving plenty of space for the artists to showcase their work. They were also to feature a removable helmet allowing the artists extra creativity both on the helmet and underneath. The line was due to be released in the fall of 2008, in very limited quantities in and to retail for approx. $44.95 SRP. These figures, from the promotional shots, actually looked quite cool. So what happened to them? Were they ever released? Have you seen any?
