The Pittsburgh Steelers are known to be the most successful franchise in the NFL and over the years have accumulated a solid reputation for bravado and defensive toughness a feat that has been cultivated through the powerful contributions of their prominent players.

The most outstanding player that comes to mind is ‘Mean’ Joe Greene who set the standard for toughness as the anchor of the team’s defensive steel curtain way back in the 1970s.

This tradition is proudly continued by linebacker James Harrison giving a new meaning to the term toughness through his mighty game approach.

McFarlane is celebrating both powerful and charismatic players in style this fall in an all new NFL 2 pack featuring a come back of Greene since 2006 in a brand new pose yet retaining his signature mark of terrifying aura as an opposing quarterback.

He is teamed together with Harrison who has already established an immovable standard in the game by which today all defenses are measured. While you keep your countdown on take a look at some exciting tidbits about the two players and don’t forget the figures will be on the shelves very soon.

Mean Joe Greene

Mean Joe Green, otherwise known as Charles Edward Greene, was born in 1946 in Elgin, Texas. His whole family life was centered on his mother as his father abandoned before he was born.

His football career was initiated during his high school days, at the Dunbar High School in Texas. From his early childhood days what set Greene apart from most of his peers was his sheer physical proportions. At a height of 6’3” he easily towered over not just his teammates but his opponents as well.

Combined with his aggressive game play and physical attributes he was later known among the football world for his extraordinary force in the field.

However, surprisingly he was a rather shy and timid player during his high school football career. His mighty quest for success eventually made him overcome these attributes.

In 1969 the Pittsburgh Steelers selected Greene as their fourth choice for the NFL draft and he continued to play for the Steelers until 1981, when he retired.

During his professional career, he led his team in four Super Bowls and received ten invitations for the pro bowl.

At the peak of his career he starred in a famous Coco Cola advertisement, which was later spanned in to a movie titled ‘The Steelers & the Pittsburgh kid’.

Football is his major passion and due to his prowess and tremendous ability to turn the tempo of any game in favor of his team he has established a dominating place for himself within the entire history of NFL professional players.

He has been awarded and recognized for his outstanding skills on the field many times over, including receiving the titles of Best Defensive Player, All NFL and All conference recognition.

Although an intimidating presence on the field, off field Greene was not much into signing fans’ autographs but preferred instead to have quiet discussions with his fans exchanging views about the game.

James Harrison

James Harrison was born in 1978 and hails from Akron, Ohio. He is the youngest child in a huge family of fourteen children who showed a keen interest in baseball when he was at college.

He later joined the Scranton Little League and was also chosen to represent the team of Stars in 2001. In his rookie year he represented the Archbishop Hoban High School and then Coventry High School and he was the first African American to have played football for them.

In 2002 he was commissioned to the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted player but only managed to play sporadically.

After a short drop out Harrison was re-contracted to the Steelers 2004 from which point onwards he was one of the highest contributing forces for the team, particularly in the Super Bowl XL and XLIII.

Harrison has a terrifying presence among the running backs and quarterbacks and his statistics, for a professional career of 8 years, includes 114 games, 3 pro bowls and 15 playoff games.

In 2008 he was selected as the AP NFL best defensive player of the year and in 2009 he achieved the status of being the first Super Bowl player to intercept a
return touchdown scaling the entire field length consisting of 100 yards.
