HELPING YOU TAKE CARE OF YOUR FIGURE(S)!

Displaying

Hi there.

I'm not am action figure collector, but I love Dinosaurs, Dragons, certain Anime/Manga and am a huge fan of several video games, most notably Metal Gear Solid.

My friend has the entire collection of Dragons series 1 and I recently found out about McFarlane's Dinosauria line and Metal Gear Solid figures (both action and statues).

I have a few questions about displaying these marvels.

Packaged or opened and to what kinds of figures does this apply?

I once saw a Comic-con show on TV and they said that action figures should be kept in their packaging while statues should be opened and displayed.

I never understood why one would want to keep figures sealed. Don't you buy them to display them in action poses?

I want to know what I should do for the Metal Gear figures (as well as other figures like AppleSeed). Should I keep them sealed and display them (but then wouldn't the packaging be destroyed) or should I take them out?

To be honest keeping them packaged seems boring. Also, what about Dinosauria and Dragons?

Both sets are statues as I see them. Should I display these sets or are they best left in their packaging (which sounds rather unappealing). Same thing for Gundam (or any other anime/manga/video game mechs) models.

I will appreciate any and all the help you could offer.

Thank You.

Ans

Hi Dave,

In answer to your question about whether to leave your figures packaged or not this boils down to whether you have bought them as an "investment" or for fun.

Personally I would say go ahead and free them from their packaging and display them in all their glory as they should be...

but others will disagree and advise you to leave them sealed in their packaging, why?

Because they will keep their value, and maybe even increase in value, if kept mint on the card.

So...

If you collect them for the shear joy of having these, then by all means display them out of the packaging. However if you are collecting them as an investment then you should leave them in their packaging.

HTH.

Colin
