David Wright's Streak of 26 Hits Ends



david wright Noted for his politeness and dedication to the game David Wright was born in Norfolk Virginia on December 20 1982.

He attended high school in Chesapeake, Virginia. During his time at Chesapeake he hit 13 home runs and 50 RBI as well as scoring a .438 batting average. He was also selected in the All-Star selection three times and named the Virginia All-State Player of the Year in his senior year.

david wright profile During his senior year he signed a letter to say he would be playing for Georgia Tech when he finished his senior year at high school. But instead when the time came he opted join the drafts as indications were that he could be selected in the first rounds.

David Wright was selected by the New York Mets in the 38th overall pick and second after Aaron Heilman. In his first few years with the Minor League he did ok and won a few awards rising from the class AA team Birmingham Mets to the AAA Class Norfolk Tides.

He made his Major Leagues debut on July 21 2004 as the Mets starting third base, a position he now regularly plays for the Mets. An exceptional hitter over his first few seasons he has lead his team in average runs, slugging percentage, on-base percentage and RBI .

david wright baseball player David Wright has also started his on charitable organization, the David Wright Foundation, which helps to fund Multiplesclerosis organizations and projects. In December 2005 he also held their first annual gala at the New York Stock Exchange's Members Club to raise funds.

Since signing his new contract, worth about $55 million, he has also pledged to donate $1.5 million to the Mets Foundation during the period of the contract.

Wright had another exceptional season in 2006 and is ranked among the teams top three hitters in all the offensive catagories and is a contender in the MVP talks.

The highlight of the season was his streak of 26 hits which came to an end on April 21 2007 which beat the previous team record of 24 by Mike Piazza and Hubie Brooks.
