When Did The Buffalo Sabres Join The NHL?

To Adertise On This Page Click Here

The Buffalo Sabres joined the NHL in 1970 and the franchisee was first owned by Seymour Knox III and Northrup Knox.

The team soon established its prominence as it went on to win the Calder Cup in its first season.

Perreault was the star player of the team as he scored 38 goals in the 1970-71 season. When Rick Martin was introduced into the team together Martin and Perreault became the French Connection.

The Buffalo Sabres had their best season in 1974-75. This was the year they advanced to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in their history.

The Sabres won the game that was played against Philadelphia Flyers as The French Connection was complimented by Danny Gare, another great player, who scored at will against other teams.

In 1994-95 Coach Aud said goodbye to The Buffalo Sabres, after many years of dedicated service and he is commonly regarded as the best coach the team ever had.

The Buffalo Sabres were known as the hardest working team at this time and Burridge earned the title of being the team's most valuable player.

Between 1997-2005 many changes took place with the team logo being changed to red and black in 1997 then in 2000 the team adopted its third jersey, black and red with grey stripes and the logo consisted of a black circle with two sabres running across it.

The 1999 season was not so great for the team though players like Miroslay Satan scored 40 goals. The team struggled in its performances due to injuries to regular players like Hasek.

Hasek was a very good player for the team but he constantly proved to be trouble for the authorities and the players.

However, despite their problems in 2000 the team managed to defeat the Flyers in the standoffs.

Then in 2003-04 Rochester billionaire Tom Golisano bought the franchisee and the team came under ownership and began its rebuilding process.

As a result some players resigned but their places were filled with new and better players.

The team got better and better in its performances but it still missed the playoffs by a small margin. The team's star players Maxim Afinogenov and Miroslav Satan scored hat ricks against the Washington Capitals in a single game.

In the 2004-05 season, due to the labor dispute, the team cancelled its appearance in the NHL then in 2005 the team got a shock when its television broadcaster, Empire Sports Network, withdrew but luckily a New york based channel quickly acquired the rights of the team.

The following season became the teams best in its history when the team finished with an overall result with 53 wins.

The Buffalo Sabres was tied with Ottawa Senators and Carolina Hurricanes for the most number of wins in the Eastern Conference and the team also completed the season with 25 road wins as well as defeating, the the favorites, Philadelphia Flyers in the 2006 playoffs.

The Sabres jerseys changed yet again in 2006 to gold, silver, white and a light blue.

The new logo consisted of a stylized bison.

In October 2006 the Sabres set a new record of 12 consecutive wins by defeating the Carolina Hurricanes and in November 2006, they set another record of eight NHL consecutive road wins by defeating the New York Rangers.

In March 2007, the Sabres won 50 games for the second time in their franchise history and the ESPN magazine,in April 2007, ranked the Sabres 1st from 122 professional teams at that time .
